Post Re: Proper Massifs?
Looks pretty nice. But if we're going to switch one Massif, we should switch them all. Can you break it up so that we can make Massif just have a single one of those back parts, Massif 2 can have two of those parts, and the Massif 3 has 3 parts?

Sure... I'm gonna play around with the "Tail" part again and see if I can come up with something decent.

Jeff_L gave us all the "Every ship must have a moving part or an animation to qualify as a ship" talk.

As you can see, if a ship doesn't have a glow or a moving part (animation), it gets looked at and they decide to add one, whether or not it actually looks good or isn't bugged with one.

Take the Jujuso'rka. It started with a glow, but Jeff_L felt that it needed an animation too. It got the "Battle mode/Travel mode" animation, which has been bugged and stays permanently on the Travel mode. This bug has been here since C2-Alpha. It has not been fixed, period.

It sounds cool, until you figure out it's broken.

The Massif-family also was perfect before. It looks like a bunch of Bulk Traders now. Because Jeff_L had to make them have a moving part or it doesn't look good.

I don't want any of the Massifs to rotate, it's too weird.

I've still got these concept models laying around:

EDIT: Okay, seems pictures are still broken around here...

Wouldn't be that bad if they actually LOOKED like Massifs, instead of a bunch of Bulks.

I want Jeff_L to tell me and be serious about it, that my Hyundai Elantra (sedan) looks exactly like a small Boeing 707. Thats about how ridiculous the current massifs look.

Post Re: Proper Massifs?
The problem with the model I was working on is that the back end will take a bit of tricky texturing if I build the "tail" section.

Since i've already spent a decent amount of time on the current texture, i'd have to figure out a way to make it work. I'm not a fan of the "hack jobs" that some people perform on models/textures to get them how they want to look with intersecting geometry etc., so I just have to find some time to do it and finish up the other massifs as well.

As far as the rotating animation, this model will look REALLY good once you see it animated in game with a glow map. It really will, and Jeff is onto something with the animations and glowmaps. While the "traditional" SS player doesn't care if ships have animations or not(since they played before there were animations and it isn't a factor for them to continue playing), newer players are looking for modern looking stuff, ie cool looking stuff that is animated. That's what it comes down to really, and I'm definitely an advocate for solid models and animations.

Post a new thread outlining the issues with the current one and the things you want to change about it etc. and i'll see.

Are you serious? The Bulk Trader spinning thing is ugly as hell.
