Post Ship designs too dark
Anyone know how to make a ship image brighter? Only thing i can see of my DS is my GI farting out the back when I thrust.
Is there any useable models for ship image mods for c2 out yet?

You can modify the texture to alleviate the issue a bit, but glows and reflections are handled server side (the actual values).

I've brightened up the DS texture a bit in the mean-time until they figure out a permanent solution for the ambient lighting issue. Navigate to c:\program files\star sonata 2\content\default\textures\ships\ and replace the "deathstriker.jpg" with the one i have uploaded.

Brightening textures wont do shit, there should be ambient lightening or some way to reduce amount of shadows on ship

Jey worked on the ambient lighting a bit, but he has much more pressing matters to work on this week.

The DeathStriker is a special case though really, as it doesn't have a glow (like the paxes), and it is meant to be as dark as the void (iirc, a bit of lore somewhere supports this).

EDIT: Overall, i think the issue is the lack of ambient lighting in galaxies. What i would like to see is maybe a dynamic nebula or space dust system that identifies the center of the galaxy. This identifier (whatever it may be, whether space dust or not) could easily support ambient light that casts into the far reaches of the galaxy.

Another idea would be to make wormholes cast a bit of light as well.

Is it really so hard to add a few sliders?

Does C2 still have galactic centre drones? they could be used as a central point.

I hate to say it, but the wattage looks like a rat sticking it's head out of a bush , with a light bulb in it's ass. NOW if they turned the graphic around and made it fly points and rotating bits first? THEN you got something. Leo

Actually, glows and reflections are all handled client-side. You can make your DS or Wattage glow as bright as any sun if you are on medium+ setting and give it a glow map to do so.

Create your own skin (http://wiki.starsonata.com/index.php/Cl ... a_New_Skin) and copy game_data/ships.xml there and modify the texture and/or glow map for whatever ships you want. (Remember to make your changes as a skin, or else they will get overwritten by the patch bot.)

That being said, we do plan on adding an ambient light slider, and I think there are some people who are getting things way too dark as a bug of some sort. If you'd be willing to post a screen shot here, I'd have an idea if your complaint is just based on how the game is supposed to look, or if your particular graphics card is rendering things too dark for some reason.

Also, I would eventually like to have glowmaps of some sort on the vast majority of the ships in the game, but haven't gotten to most of them yet. Feel free to submit your own to be added to the game.

No. Just no. Wattage looks like that thing now, it's epic.

EDIT: Even more closely resembles http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/SSG_Rahu

Yes just yes, first of all I have no idea why they changed the original graphic anyways. It was slick and polished. Not every ship has to look like it has a visible cockpit. And yugioh, that thing was flying points first looked like to me. Leo
