By downloading the Star Sonata 2 client, playing the game, or using this website you agree to follow the rules outlined on this page, and abide by the user agreement. Any questions about the rules can be directed to the Community Manager.

Game Rules
  1. Do not hack the Star Sonata 2 client, or servers, or use a third party program that manipulates the Star Sonata 2 client or server.
  2. Griefing is not tolerated. Griefing is defined as stalking a player in game and killing them repeatedly, targeting them specifically (as opposed to camping a popular travel route).
  3. Harassment is not tolerated.
  4. Intentionally causing lag for other players is not tolerated. For Example: Firing weapons without a designated target in high traffic areas such as Sol.
  5. Capturing, Demoing, or manipulating a base will result in characters being revealed to the affected player if it is requested.
  6. Do not spam players with squad or team invites.
  7. Using a free to play for the sole purpose of trolling, harassment, or chat disruption will result in a permaban of the account.
  8. In game items must be purchased with other in game items or credits. Buying or selling items for real life money is not tolerated and will result in a ban.
  9. Engaging in player versus player combat with a moderator or developer based on their status as a moderator or developer is not tolerated.
  10. Distributing passwords to accounts that you do not have "ownership" of (billing information), is now against the rules. While we are not going to be actively patrolling and hunting for passwords, we will be able to ban for it if it leads to extreme losses.
  11. Impersonating another player, moderator, developer, bot, or admin is against the rules. Ruin your own reputation, not another players.
  12. Accessing an account without the owner's permission is not tolerated and can get your own accounts permabanned.

Forum Rules
  1. Do not use any languages other than English.
  2. Do not spam. This means the repetitive posting of a topic, posts that are off topic, and bumping old topics. (You may bump Outer Rim Outpost once per day).
  3. Do not troll. Trolling as defined by the SS Moderation team is as follows: comments that are intended to anger another, shock posts, derailing posts, off topic posts, and personal attack posts.
  4. Do not discuss bans or mutes on the forum. Posts designed to argue against mutes or bans will be removed without warning. This includes posting on behalf of a banned or muted individual.
  5. Do not create alternative accounts to be used to circumvent a forum ban.
  6. Do not harass, antagonize, stalk, or personally attack another player.
  7. Do not make posts designed to harass new players or drive them from the game.
  8. Do not post support ticket links, or private messages on the forums.
  9. Do not post about buying/selling accounts and credits.
  10. You are not allowed to post topics, posts, content, or links that contain:
    • promotion of hatred, including hateful comments based on nation, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender orientation, age, physical or mental ability.
    • sexually explicit content, violently explicit content, pornography
    • real life threats
    • personal attacks
    • real life information about other players or the development team
  11. Do not impersonate another person or entity.
Forum bans are up to the sole discretion of the Community Manager and the forum moderators. We reserve the right to remove your access to these forums, lock topics, and remove posts for whatever reason we deem necessary. Using our forums is a privilege, not a right. Essentially, use common sense and in the words of Wil Wheaton, don’t be a dick. Respect others and we’ll get along just fine.

Chat Rules
Unless otherwise stated general chat rules apply to all chats. These chat rules also apply to Base Names & Descriptions. Public chats are as follows: All chat, help chat, protected galaxy chat. Mass private messaging random people can also be considered public chat.
  1. Comments that discriminate against gender, sexuality, race, physical or mental ability, religion, age, ethnicity, or nationality will not be tolerated.
  2. Harassment (sexual and non sexual harassment) and real life threats will not be tolerated. If a person asks you to stop, you stop. Telling someone to commit suicide is considered harassment and a real life threat. Harassment is considered more serious than other chat violations and can result in a ban. If harassment is reported in private and semi-private chats, action will be taken
  3. Circumventing the swear filter via repeated misspelling is not allowed.
  4. Abusive or sexually explicit language is not allowed.
  5. Using an inappropriate character name is not allowed.
  6. Discussion about hacking the game or cheating is not allowed.
  7. Impersonating an Admin or a Moderator is not allowed.
  8. Posting links to Pornographic, or inappropriate websites is not allowed. Please note that Star Sonata is not responsible for the content of the website our players link to, and as such cannot be held liable if a link posted by a player has malicious content.
  9. Spamming or Instigating Spam is not allowed. This includes flooding the chat with two or more lines of nonsensical text, text that is for no purpose other than annoying the playerbase, repeated usage of all caps, or 5+ lines of one person talking.
  10. Trolling is not allowed. Trolling is defined by the SS Administration as: comments that are intended to anger another, shock comments, and personal attack comments.
  11. Conversations or Trade Chat posts about buying/selling accounts/credits/subscriptions are not allowed in the public chats. This also applies to any other way of publicly advertising it, such as the bulletin board and in base descriptions.
  12. Mutes and bans are not to be discussed on the public chats; if you have a problem with a warning, mute, or ban please create a support ticket. The same goes for complaints about chat & forum moderators; if you have an issue please create a ticket.
  13. If a chat moderator warns you to stop a conversation before it gets out of hand then stop.
  14. Do not advertise trades in all chat. Trades belong in trade chat. Using all chat to point to trade chat is not allowed. Price checks however, are allowed in any chat, including all chat.
  15. Consistent breaking of chat rules will result in extended mutes and even permanent mutes.
  16. Using SS for advertising purposes is not allowed.
  17. You may use trade chat for buying items, selling items, or requesting a price check on an item. Using trade chat for anything other than what was previously described is against the rules. Questions about another person's trade post can be directed to them in private message.
  18. Circumventing the three minute trade chat timer by alting to another character or account is not allowed. Posting for another individual who has also posted in that same three minute window is not allowed.
  19. Adding extra messages to your trade post that do not pertain to your post is not allowed. An example: So-and-so is a noob. Buying a Blue Whisper! However, clever advertising is allowed, such as Don't get caught hungry, stock up on rations at this epic base today!
  20. Help Chat is restricted to players under level 100. It can be used for new players to ask questions and to meet & discuss with fellow new players.
  21. Moderators & Greeters are not allowed to use help chat for any other purpose than to assist other players.

IRC Rules
Generally, these are similar to the forum or chat rules, however a few things are different. All rules will be listed for clarity.
All moderation for IRC is handled by Blue Dwarf. If you have an issue with IRC moderation contact Blue Dwarf. IRC itself is handled by Jey. If there is a problem with the IRC server, tell us as if it were a normal bug.

  3. There is no swear filter for IRC, swearing is allowed but please be considerate to other users.

  6. Discussion about hacking the game or cheating is not allowed.
  7. Impersonating an administrator, developer or IRC operator is not allowed.
  8. Posting links to pornographic or other inappropriate websites is not allowed.
  9. Spamming or instigating spam is not allowed. IRC will automatically kick if a user sends more than 4 message in 5 seconds. If you have something long to paste, use http://0bin.net. or similar pasting tool!
  10. Languages other than English are not allowed (in game languages are exempt).
  11. It is not acceptable to hop on IRC, say something about a bug and log off without creating a ticket or bug forum post. If tell you tell us about a bug on IRC and we will forget and it will not be fixed in most cases. So create a support ticket or report it on the bug subforum if you tell us about a bug on IRC.
  12. Conversations about trading accounts, credits or subscriptions are not allowed.
  13. Kicks and bans (and rarely mutes) are not to be discussed in public channels; if you have a problem with a kick, ban or mute, contact Blue Dwarf. The same goes for complaints about operators.
  14. If an operator warns you to stop a conversation before it gets out of hand then stop.
  15. Consistent breaking of IRC rules will result in long bans/permanent bans/possible mute.
  16. Using SS for advertising purposes is not allowed.

User Agreement
Cheating will consist of exploitation of bugs to advance ones character, hacking or modifying the client or hacking into the server, intercepting or sending information to or from the server in any way other than standard use of the client, use of macros or any other similar abnormal activity that can cause an increase in the load on the CPU, accessing accounts without permission, using any 3rd party program which confers an advantage to you or affects the speed of the game, or unauthorized use of Star Sonata administration or monitoring features.  You must report any exploitable bugs to the administration as soon as you find them, and destroy any wealth or items you accidentally get through an exploitable bug.  If you are found to be cheating or using a bug to your advantage, your account may be subject to suspension or deletion without refund, as well as the accounts of anyone whom you help as the result of the cheating. Abusive or sexual language, harassment, advertisement (Spam), or deliberate attempts to circumvent the swear filter within the Star Sonata chat or forums is unacceptable.  People involved in this activity will be warned, have their accounts banned, or deleted depending on the severity, blatancy, or number of violations.  There will be no refunds for accounts deleted or banned.  There is no expectation of privacy of in-game chat or messaging.  Star Sonata reserves the right to monitor all communications that happen within game or on the forums.  Though we will try to cut down on abuse of the chat and forums, Star Sonata cannot be held responsible for any abusive, harassing, demeaning, offensive, or threatening statements made thereon. Inappropriate user or character names are also not allowed and subject to deletion or permanent muting.  If you are found to be using “Griefing” is defined as taking actions against other players mainly to hurt them within the game and not for any advancement of your own character.  Star Sonata reserves the right to suspend or ban any players for excessively griefing or excessive anti-social behavior within the game. This game, the website, the client, and the server are provided as services “as is”.  Star Sonata does not warrant that the operation of these services will be uninterrupted or error free. There is no guarantee that Star Sonata will continue to provide its services for any length of time.  Star Sonata reserves the right to close down its servers with a 30 day notice, refunding all players the balance of any further months that they’ve paid for. In the event of a material breach of Star Sonata’s obligations to provide access to and use of your account, the system, the game, game content, or user content, your sole and exclusive remedy shall be a refund of any paid access fees attributable to the period of wrongful denial of service, or three months’ access fees, whichever is less. This agreement can be modified at any time by sending a message at log-in to all users and asking them the re-accept the new agreement.  If you do not accept the new agreement, you will be entitled to a refund of any remaining subscription fees. Although this software has been tested and scanned for viruses. In no way are we (The people who have developed this software) responsible for any errors it may cause or damage it may cause to your computer. All accounts and in-game credits, ships, bases, items and everything else within the game are the property of Star Sonata.  Paying for a subscription does not imply legal ownership of the account or anything contained or associated with that account.  In cases where multiple parties claim the right to access an account, Star Sonata reserves the right to settle the dispute in whichever way we think is correct. In-game items or commodities, such as “Entertainers”, does not advocate breaking of any local laws in such jurisdictions that prohibit whoring, possession of nuclear waste, or destroying rats with large lasers.
