They are consumed at set rates based on the amount required and the total build time. For instance, a Heat Dampener+ that requires 2 Heat Dampeners as periodic materials will require 1 at 50% completion, and another at 100% completion. Construction requiring 3 of another periodic material would require them at 33%, 66%, and 100% completion.<br />

Server crashes and shortages of periodic materials can affect the calculations for when the next is needed. If it is not available at a given time in the build, but somehow construction continues, then all the remaining periodic materials will be required at once at the end. This is most noticeable when building items like Pax Astronomica and Scorch's Immolation, which require periodic materials with decay times.<br />

Periodic materials can range from [[commodities]] such as Promethium and Energon, to weapons like [[Weapons|Venusian Jackhammer]]s. They are often related to the item that is being built, however some commodities such as Promethium are used in the building of a wide variety of items and [[ships]].<br />
