Well, the working assumption is that since there hasn't been a lot of base building in the beta, and we are still finishing some base-related bugs, there's sure to still be some bugs left. A 1 week temp uni can help us stress test a little bit more and will hopefully prevent bugs from ruining a "real" universe.

Why not convert the beta to current players for the next 2 weeks instead? That way people can actually test bases without wasting things on a week long temp uni(which let's face it, almost no one will build in).
