Post Jeff - Engine rebalance
Jeff has rebalanced engines.

This was a side tangent from Olympus, but as so many new ones got added, and there wasn't a balance sheet / ability to add the aug mods we wanted on them, he went ahead and did all the work on them to bring them into line with every other major gear line.

Kinda scary impressive in the time frame he did it as well

  • Major beefing to lower tech engines, in fact, gains across the board
  • No nerfs included - in fact, +thrust / +turn have increased and sizes gone down, with only a few exceptions (and those that gain are in the region of +10, not +100's)
  • Gyroscopic mod has been brought in line with other mods, which means a reduction, however engine increases more than outweigh this
  • AI have had a universal nerf to their turn/thrust to prevent them turning into ninjas overnight - we're keeping an eye on this however
  • Aug effects added to certain engines

More on this once we've tested the new changes thoroughly.

Post Re: Jeff - Engine rebalance
I'm waiting since the big re-balance for this: Good work!

I hope now Gigantic (and the still to come Gargantuan) gear is now usable again in a reasonable way.

I was expecting the 'reduction' on the Gyroscopic mod, still ofc I hope it won't hit too hard.
I wonder if anyhow the EF capital ship line (engine) - especially the turn of the EFDN - has been rebalanced anyhow?

I havent seen the new stats for all engines but as I understood it there was one specific engine that was a bit too good in comparission to the others. Rhino Charge. So you can expect a little nerf to that one.

As long as it is better than a Lion Thruster (360 size is quite huge), and as long as the primal one keeps the 17%, I think that was an ok decision.

Changed my mind a bit, and it scares me that the only engine that can make a well equipped Shield Monkey/Engineer or Dark Freighter going anywhere at all, is getting changed. Maybe you should ask a few well-geared Engineers/Shield Monkeys and other classes mainly using Rhino Charges to actually show you how their ships perform with Rhino Charges before nerfing them?

Great question ! Will the Primal Rhino Charge stay the same ? Will the merc engine stay the same iirc he could use a beef?

If all engines are getting a beef, I'm expecting to see a ruin engine becoming as good or better than that Rhino Charge.

Please do something with the maneuvering thrusters, like add a -weight or some other bonus, or simply beef it a little :)

Yes do something but, imho I think they should be semi decent and have a +weight mod.

So like 8k thrust and 8k turning and a +20% weight mod or something, and make it weigh a lot more. The main problem with the battle thatch is that it will never get to fighting fast enough because it cant move itself into position. It needs to be slow but not that slow...

Lion Thruster > MercRamjet > IID WTF?

Were the costs/difficulty involved factored in to the balance sheet?

On Trevor I have a primal rhino charge, the thing moves on a dime.

Edit...Checked the stats on test, as for my monkey the Primal Rhino Charge is still perfectly fine.

If this is the case ( I dont have all the engines), please fix the spreadsheets to factor in cost and difficulty...

Post Re: Jeff - Engine rebalance
As an Engineer, I logged onto test in my rhino, expecting some changes. what i didn't expect was to move like i did before engines 20 came out and i used an FT IID. my turning is horrible and my thrust is just as bad. 75% of the stats of the normal primal rhino charge... that hit me pretty hard. now i have even less reason to play on that character.

PS why does the FT IID have 6k more thrust than a primal rhino charge?

Post Re: Jeff - Engine rebalance
Before I made the new balance sheet, Rhino Charge was literally 3x better than every other engine. It ended up getting about a 20% nerf and most other engines except the tech 18+'s ended up getting improved by about 2x-3x with a few exceptions. In particular, the Fine Tuned engines all got major beefs to bring them in line with their costs.

Lion Thruster is "better" than the Mercurian Ramjet because it's twice the size and twice the weight. If it's really better or not depends on your set up, but, yes, the costs were taken into account. Not sure why you would complain about IID compared to Merc Ramjet. IID got a 25% improvement in engine stats and had its size reduced by 28% while the Merc Ramjet was only improved by 15% and had it's size increased by a little. IID is much stronger post-balance compared to Merc Ramjet than it was pre-balance. Also, FT IID is now a monster.

Maneuvering thrusters were improved a bit, but not a whole lot. Turning is 19% better and thrust is 10x better with size reduced by more than half.

We're hoping to patch the server as soon as we finish the last little bit's of Olympus gear and BP's, so please, take a look at the engines and give your specific feedback. I will take all of it seriously.
