Basically under this idea, teams are allowed 10 galaxies without cost. To own more galaxies than this, they need to purchase a (non-destructable, but capturable) ownership beacon and lay it in the target galaxy (maybe it can only be attached to orbit a sun, etc).

There is a credit cost to lay the beacon, with the credit cost rising as you lay more beacons within a team. Every turn/day/week a credit tax is applied depending on how many beacons your team controls.

Designed as a credit sink, so teams that own 20+ gals and farm massive colonies are sinking some money into a tax, some money into builds and the profit is minimised greatly (making it take longer to earn vast amounts of money from colonies - which is a good thing).

Maybe some bvb game mechanic could be attached to beacon control - any thoughts?

All this would do is penalize players from forming large teams.

And... funny how only the largest, best organized teams in this game are able to do team Olympus runs. Anything that makes it more difficult for players to band together in this game runs counter the basic goal for SS to be an MMO.
