Finally finished the FIRST lap of the Micron Race Course, ...

but not before our neighbors in Seattle, WA called the cops about my swearing ...

and we live in San Jose, CA!

Bone seems to have a chronic case of "not good at games."

Let me guess ... you're a touch typist and have great eye-to-hand coordination.

Well let's see, he's on the Internet and is slightly competent at playing any sort of video game. I'm going to go with yes.

The Micron course is out of place in Star Sonata.

It requires a level of hand/eye coordination that some players just dont have.

You dont need it before Engines 20 nor after.

In its current configuration it is very hard for some and impossible for others.

It needs to be toned down several notches and if it still causes comment (its to easy now, or I still cannot do it ) it will need to be totally replaced.

dont be mean to bonecrusher, if you'd spent so many years playing "RL" you'd suck at new games too.

i think its great, hand eye coordination has another name, "skill". because its something which improves with practice, which is what makes it such a great "decider" of who should win, hence the popularity of multiplayer games like MW3.

and the small role that "skill" plays in SS is partly behind the lack of open PvP. right now it matters more what tweaks you have and what class you are. only about 1 in 20 fights are decided by who is actually better at playing the game (rather than being decided by who has done more grinding and has chosen the more OP class)

the way micron is, is a step in the right direction for SS.

Only if you like walking in dog dodo.

It's a Speed Demon skill at best.

It has absolutely no business being in the Engine Skill tree.

then what skill tree does it belong in?

or should there be no skill based challenges? should SS be reduced to "grind only" where players have to set up slaves to kill AI in DGs while the player is AFK, or setting up colonies which earn money when the player is offline, and have those be the only options for playing?

at the moment all the engines suck, and even using the best engine i can get for my beserker, the acceleration and turning is still pathetic and i have no way of improving that without sacrificing some other important stat, that would result in me being even less able to fight.

i think THAT ^ , I.E. the lack of versatility at the endgame, is the biggest problem. players getting forced into a few select setups that dominate everything else, and the only thing providing an illusion of diversity is the fact that not everyone knows those setups yet, resulting in a constant need for new content to prevent stagnation.

the fact you NEED to get engines 20 is just a symptom of that problem, because to compensate for not having engines 20 you'd have to sacrifice other stats and you'd be so far behind the other players that you'd have no chance whatsoever

You don't need to be a speed demon to finish Micron, it was tested without any skills at all. You might need to build a specialized ship, although most high level players should already have a ship that satisfies the requirements.

I'm not saying everyone should be able to get it on the first try, but if you build an appropriate ship for the task, practice the course and put some effort into it, you should be able to get engines 20 without too much trouble.

Wingship IV, 2 Hermes Augmenters, Ghoststream or some other speedshield. And don't remember the best active radar you can get!
